


Alumni of Color

The basic tenets are to do the following as alumni as stated by the Alumni Constitution of Antioch College:
1. To encourage communication and constructive activity among the alumni
2. To maintain and promote the loyalty of its alumni
3. To assist and to promote the interests of Antioch College and Antioch University in general.
As the members of Alumni of Color for Antioch, we want to do the following:
Mission Statement:
1. We recognize that we want to engage alumni of color to establish a chapter spanning decades and regions for the sole purpose to volunteer services that have direct positive results in meaningful ways
2. We want to provide more campus-based opportunities centered around our cultural identities and to advance and address common issues; and extend our wisdom to the next generation of Antiochians.
Our immediate goals would be to forward several agreed upon ideas:
1. Develop a Calendar
-Group Dates for Reunion prep activities
-Targeted Dates:
A. October 20-21, 2006 Board Meeting
(Community Governance Meeting – conflict resolution)
B. June 18-21, 2007 Work project
(Planning meeting for Reunion 2008)
C. June 22-24, 2007 Reunion
(Pennell Open House and Meeting Place)
2. Establish a web presence with recent photo of Reunion 2006
- with Mission Statement and contact information and to set-up an organizational bank account, for the depository of supportive funding for regional planning of the Antioch reunion in Yellow Springs and to support stated goals.
3. Plaque for Pennell House
- To institute the Walter Anderson Award for excellence of service for people who have contributed to Antioch College in their years.
- To establish the appropriateness and to contact the family if agreeable to such a recognition.
4. Support for the newly created Coretta Scott King Center at Antioch in any way deemed useful for strategy and goals.
5. Support for visiting faculty of color to teach at Antioch College.
6. Support Cooperative Education in its targeted sites.
7. Provide career-related exit information for career assessment, testing and tutoring whereupon given on demand by upcoming graduates of Antioch College.
Our long-term goals include:
1. Develop a strategic plan to engage Antioch College in supporting and promoting the recruitment and retention of faculty and students of color.
