Philanthropy Each year nearly 5,000 alumni, students, parents, faculty, staff and friends show their support of Antioch College with gifts to the Annual Fund. The College counts on the consistent generosity of these individuals to keep the Antioch reputation going strong. Gifts to the Annual Fund contribute nearly 10% of Antioch’s annual operating funds (the annual fund year runs from July 1 to June 30), providing critical unrestricted support for everything from faculty salaries, student financial aid, and the cost of light bulbs, to other general operational expenses of the College. There are many ways of providing support to Antioch and each is important to the continued success of the College. These methods are most common: Gifts by Cash and Credit Cards Checks are always appreciated. We also accept Visa and MasterCard. You may send your gift in credit card form through the mail, call the Development Office directly to make a gift, or provide your card information to one of our student callers during Antioch’s Phonathon. Giving with credit cards provides instant pledge fulfillment and allows Antioch to put your gift to work immediately. Electronic Funds Transfer Many Antiochians have requested the ease and simplicity of electronic funds transfer. You decide the amount of your monthly contribution and send an authorization to Antioch. We, in turn, notify your bank of your permission to withdraw a specified amount from your account every month. At the beginning of the month that amount will be deposited into the College’s account. Giving on a regular monthly basis without the hassle of writing and mailing one large check can allow increased support of Antioch with little financial discomfort to you. For less than $85 per month, you can become a member of Antioch’s Horace Mann Society. EFT Facts When considering your monthly contribution, please think in terms of your total annual contribution for the fiscal year, which ends on June 30. For instance, if you sign up for $50.00 per month in October, your annual contribution to Antioch will be $450.00 for that year and $600.00 for the following year. Matching Gifts If you work for a company that matches donations, your gift to Antioch can be doubled or tripled. Many subsidiaries of parent companies also are eligible. Retired employees and non-alumni spouses often qualify as well. Simply obtain a matching gift form from your personnel office, follow the instructions for initiating the match and send the completed form with your gift. Gifts of Stock Stock and gifts of securities offer an opportunity to support Antioch while realizing tax savings for yourself. Gifts of appreciated property allow you to save taxes twice: first, you generally deduct the full current value of the stocks (not just what you originally paid); second, you bypass capital gains taxes. How Do I Send Stock? You may transfer stock directly to our account with Salomon Smith Barney. Your broker should be able to transfer your gift of stock electronically to the College’s account. Please contact a member of the Development staff at (800) 411-6780 or (937) 769-1200 who will provide you with the appropriate information. You can also send the stock certificate(s) to the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. Send a signed stock power form to us in a separate envelope. Your local bank will have a stock power form readily available. Gift Annuities Many Antiochians who wish to make meaningful contributions to the College – and provide for the future financial well-being of their heirs or themselves – have used the charitable gift annuity. A gift annuity makes it possible to give to Antioch and, in exchange, you and/or someone else you designate will receive a guaranteed income for life. Antioch can arrange for annuity payments to be electronically transferred to your checking or savings account. Including Antioch in Your Will Estate gifts are the ultimate expression of commitment and dedication to Antioch. Recent changes in federal accounting standards enable Antioch to list bequests as assets. Therefore, by notifying the College of your estate plans you strengthen Antioch’s financial position. Donors who provide support for the College in their wills are accorded membership in the Hugh Taylor Birch Heritage Society. Endowed Scholarship Support Some Antiochians choose to honor friends, loved ones, or faculty members by establishing an Endowed Scholarship. Investment returns on endowed scholarships are awarded annually in the name of the individual(s) honored. In order to maintain sufficient scholarship levels, a minimum of $100,000 is required to establish an endowed scholarship at Antioch College. If you have not already given this year, please consider joining The Horace Mann Society with a gift to the Annual Fund of $1,000 or more. If you have already contributed, we thank you for your generous support and ask you to consider a second gift before June 30. For more information on any of these ways of giving to Antioch College, contact the office of Development and Alumni Relations at (800) 411-6780 or (937) 769-1200; 795 Livermore Street, Yellow Springs, OH 45387.
