Thirties
Bob Wilson ’39 sent in the photo featured to the right and writes: “In your Spring edition, you ran a photo and a piece by Will Hamlin ’42 that inspired me to stir around in the gluepot to find the enclosed photo of Bob Wilson ’39, Jemie McBride ’35 who attended in the mid-30s, Alice Kirby ’40, Ray Crossley ’37 taken by Axel Bahnsen ’30, village photographer, at the DIV Dance of February 1, 1936. Dances were always formal (still?) all through the Depression so it was rent or borrow from someone without a date, or slug sloe gin while playing poker with your roommates in Nemo, South Hall. If you can afford the $1.50 cover charge, don’t forget a corsage for your love. Great memories!”
