Nationalism in the African American context: Jahwara Giddings
Met with Jahwara about his Africa Service Learning project.
The projects will be completely directed by the Antioch Students, but the elementary school students will be active participants. April 16 or April 18 AM

Group One
Students (up to five) will present to a K-2 grade class an exercise that will allow them to learn about the different countries in Africa and make a puzzle that they will be able to take with them. Jahwara will speak to the teacher prior to the presentation.

Group Two
Students (up to five) will present to a 3rd grade class an exercise that will allow them to learn about the different countries in Africa and make a map that  will become the property of the school. This map will include cultural references, topographical, geographical and regional highlights. Jahwara will speak to the teacher prior to the presentation. 


Group Three:
This project will involve leaving campus early (one hour drive both ways) 
Manny Mandez and Amado Guzman will present to a Severe Behavior Disorder class in Columbus, Ohio at the Clinton Middle School. They have not indicated yet what it is they wish to do.  Jahwara is hoping to have an opportunity to observe this. 

Followup:
M et with Mrs. Chapman at Springfield Academy of Excellence (SAE). She is very interested in the presentation. She would like to know if it would be possible to make the presentation to both 3rd grades and a second grade. Or will she have to select one of the 3rd grades. It should be noted that an observer mentioned that one of the 3rd grades is quite rambunctious and will have trouble staying on topic. Her best date is Tuesday April 16 in the morning. I told her that Jahwara would like to speak with the teachers and she said for him to call the school. The teachers names are Mrs. Buck second grade, Mrs. Scarce 3rd Grade and Mrs. Howard 3rd Grade.

I spoke with Manny about Clinton Middle School and he seems interested. I would like to set up a date that is convenient to both Manny, Amado and Jahwara.
