Music at Antioch: Spring 2006
April 18: Antioch Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Singers
A Music Department concert on Tuesday April 18th at 8 PM in Kelly Hall will include the "Masonic Funeral Music" of Mozart performed by the Antioch Chamber Orchestra, the extended madrigal "Lamento d'Arianna" by Claudio Monteverdi performed by the Antioch Chamber Singers, and two composition Senior Projects performed by the Orchestra. Adam Knapp will perform as solo pianist in his "Fantasia in D Minor" with the orchestra, which will also perform "Variations on a Finnish Lullaby" by William Parke-Sutherland.
April 25: Mozart, "Bastien and Bastienne"
The Antioch Chamber Orchestra will present a fully staged perfmance of Mozart's early opera "Bastien and Bastienne" on Tuesday evening, April 25th at 8 PM in Kelly Hall. The cast will be guest artists from Chicago's "Comic Intermezzo", including Peter and Kathleen Van De Graaff. Peter is the night-time host for Classical Music on WDPR Radio. Written when he was 12 years old, this opera tells a light-hearted tale of a young rustic couple having trouble with their relationship, who seek the aid of the local "magician" to help them out. The event is free to CG members. Tickets are $10 for general admission.
April 26: Voice recital
Sara Stapleton will present her Senior Project on Wednesday evening, April 26th at 8 PM in Kelly Hall. Sara will present a voice recital of varied repertoire by Schubert, Faure, Bizet, Puccini, Gershwin, and other Broadway composers.
May 4: Yellow Springs Community Orchestra and Band
The Antioch Music Department and Chamber Orchestra will host a performance by the Yellow Springs Community Orchestra and Band on Thursday night May 4th at 8 PM. The concert will feature three talanted graduating high school students performing movements from Grieg's Piano Concerto, the Second Piano Concerto of Shostakovich, and a Bassoon Concerto by Hummel. The Band and Orchestra will also play music by Rossini and Mussorgsky. Admission is free to the public and community.
